Planning. When you receive an assignment start working on it that day; don't procrastinate. Build schema. Unless you have a fabulous memory or a talent for learning, you must use background knowledge to build schema and remember things. Humor works well on remembering things, as does color. Find out what kind of learner you are: tactile, visual, audio and then utilize strategies that work with that for example a tape recorded lecture helps an audio learner, color coded notes helps a visual learner, and hands on helps a tactile learner. Hope this helps. There are tons more suggestions but the most important are prepare yourself well and then be confident in what you know when it comes to tests so that you do well on them. What if you make straight As, become top of the class, and get a scholarship to the university of your choice! Have fun.

What if you found something in every subject you are studying that really fascinated you? What if you got really curious about the topics you're learning so it was easy to get good grades? What if you found a way for studying to be fun?

Out of curiousity, why is it important to you to make good grades?

What if you achieved more As then Bs? because you can. What are your usual average grades? have u ever achieved the A"s and B"s? What were the circumstances then or what were you doing right? Were you more attentive in class? More positive? Can you bring back into your life those circumstances? Especially if they were internal factors ( those factors we can control).

I use a tool called The Work for any question that is a "I want to...I need to...I should...I have to...". It is a method of inquiry that consist of 4 questions and a turnaround. It is a way of opening the mind and relieving stress, leaving one in a state of peaceful grace where A's and B's come naturally, no matter what the subject matter. I invite you to check it out at www.thework.com. I have wonderful success with this amazing tool. I am a facilitator of The Work and will gladly assist you in any way possible, should you become interested.

I agree with Terry's suggestions, Haidee. It has been my experience, from years of working with high school students, that the best place to start is by discovering all that you can about who YOU are...your learning style, the wiring of your particular type of brain, which learning environments and strategies work best for your brain.

If you are in the Wimberley area, Spiral Journey would like to invite you to a workshop on November 5th, at the Wimberley Community Center. This workshop could open many windows for you to discover your gifts, your talents, your strengths and which weak areas are holding you back. You can call 512-787-6555 or just show up that Wednesday, from 5 to 7. Hope to see you there!

I agree with all of these answers, their all correct and spot on!
My advice is to not stress to much on your work, and do it when you feel like it. For example, if you get home and dread doing HW first thing...DON'T! Do things that please you first, than get around to your HW in a reasonable manner. Bottom line is, is just TRUST YOURSELF that it will get done and you will get a good grade, and TRUST ME, you will. Hope this helps.

Be an Active Learner. The teacher is there to help you if they see that you want to learn and care about school. The outer world is a projection of whats going on inside of you and school is no exception.

Kay,
I wanted to let you know and I didn't know how to contact you that the Alice in Wonderland play is at Chapa Middle School tonight at 7pm. It would be great if the kids could come. They said they would be happy to share after the play. They are also perfoming again tomorrow at the PAC, but that is with other plays from other schools as part of a competition, so tonight would be better. If you want call Renee to get my number to call me.

Check this out. I ran into a couple of my former students last weekend at a UIL competition. They were very happy to see me and were appreciative for the tools that I provided them as a teacher and mentor. Many of them placed well in the competition, are doing fantastic in school, and some are off to universities doing fabulous. I am very proud of their accomplishments. I always had faith that they could achieve their goals, be successful, and be what ever they want. Now they are fulfilling their dreams and it is wonderful. What if they all succeed? How great would that be? It just goes to show that positive thinking promotes positive thinking. Believing in them helped them to believe in themselves. It makes me feel more successful as a teacher and a person. This is why I do what I do.
