Thanks for this, Chris. I am a HUGE Lynne Twist fan! She was one of my first interviews when we launched Unity.FM. Do you know where she will be speaking? We should add this to our events calendar!

I am a founding member of Impact Austin, an Austin area women's philanthropic group. I am very proud that in our first 5 years (we were founded in May, 2003) we have given over $1.5 million to Austin area nonprofits. Our founder, Rebecca Powers, heard Lynne speak and said it was lifechanging. She KNEW she had to find a way to get Lynne here!

Impact Austin is proud to bring Lynne Twist to Austin. She will speak on Thursday, Oct. 16 at 7:00 pm at the Congregation Agudas Achim Sanctuary on the Dell Jewish Community Center Campus, 7300 Hart Lane* in Austin. Lynne will speak from 7:00-8:30 pm, followed by a book signing and dessert reception from 8:30-9:30 pm.

Cost is $20 which includes both the speech and the book signing/reception and a paperback copy of her book. I will let you know when tickets go on sale.

Lynne will also speak to the Austin chapter of American Fundraising Professionals on Friday, Oct. 18.

* The Dell Jewish Community Center is on Hart Lane, just north of Far West Blvd., a few blocks west of MoPac. The DJCC is at 7300 Hart Lane between Far West Blvd. and Greystone Dr. There is a light at Far West and Hart Lane.

THANKS for you interest. It doesn't surprise me that you already know Lynne!
Thanks, Chris Cavner

Wow - yes, I knew about Lynne Twist, but I did NOT know about Impact Austin. What a wonderful group to be a part of! Is there a website for this?
Thanks for the info!

Thanks! The website is www.impact-austin.org.
Founder, Rebecca Powers, was flying back to Austin from a final visit with her brother who was dying of cancer. En route she read a one-page article in People Magazine about "Impact 100" in Cinncinnati, a group of women who each give $1,000 a year, pooled their resources and give all of the money out in large grants to their community to make an "impact." She couldn't get it out of her mind and within a few months, Impact Austin was born.
Anyone is welcome to join. There are only two requirements: you must be female and you must give $1,000 by Dec. 31. All of the money raised by Dec. 31 of this year will be distributed in June of 2009 -- near the date of Rebecca's brother's birthday. All spring we will review grants, make site visits, and ultimately determine finalists in 5 categories -- Education, Family, Health & Wellness, Culture and Environment. Then all of the membership will vote on the grant recipients. Each recipients gets at least $100,000 for their project.

Hope this explains things a bit.
THANKS for asking. Chris Cavner
